Working at SGGW

  • Nostrification

Before applying for a position at the SGGW, make sure that your degree is recognized in Poland by completing a nostrification process.

Please bear in mind that providing a recognition statement  is a necessary step when applying for a certain job offers. You will find more on the process on the website of the National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA. Here you can also look up general information about types of diplomas obtained abroad and verify how a certain type of diploma is recognized in Poland. In order to do so, use KWALIFIKATOR database.

  • Visas

Here you will find a list of countries whose citizens are exempt from obtaining a visa to Poland.

If you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country, you need to apply for a visa. National visas are issued for various reasons of stay but from the university’s future employee perspective these are the most relevant ones:

    • national visa (type “D”) for the purpose of conducting scientific research or development activities (13). This type of visa is issued specifically for scientists accepted by Polish universities and scientific institutes. It allows to move freely within the Schengen area up to 90 days in the 180-day period.
    • national visa (type “D”) for the purpose of work (06). During application process you will need to provide an invitation letter describing the conditions of your employment.
    • you can also apply for a Schengen visa (type “C”) allowing its holder to stay on the territory of Poland for a period not exceeding 90 days in the 180-day period
  • Accommodation

SGGW staff members and visiting professors can apply for accommodation in the EDEN student dorm. The decision to grant a place in a dorm is made by the Rector’s Housing Committee. In order to get a place, your supervisor must fill in the form and attach it to the EZD system. Please note that your supervisor is the only person eligible to apply for a dorm on your behalf. There is no possibility to apply yourself for a place in a dorm granted by the Rector’s Housing Committee.

For more information on applying for a dorm, email: wepoint@sggw.edu.pl .

Guests visiting SGGW for scientific or professional purposes can use our Guest Rooms at IKAR hotel located on the campus. More information here.

  • SGGW Kindergarten

On the campus there is a kindergarten accepting children aged three to six. For more information send an email at: przedszkole@sggw.pl.

  • Insurance

All employees holding a job contract in Poland are subject to obligatory insurance contributions deducted from their salary. Having a job contract means that you are insured by ZUS which grants you and your family members a right to use public healthcare. However, you can obtain ZUS insurance even if you are not employed on the basis of a job contract. You can do it by signing an agreement with the NFZ and submit the ZUS ZZA document to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). You can then choose your NFZ clinic that will be your first point of contact in case you seek a medical advice.

Keep in mind that not all doctors and staff members at the clinic of your choice can speak English. Please consider bringing a Polish speaker to help you register for the visit.

What can you expect during a visit to the general practitioner in your clinic?

Apart from examining you and providing you a medical advice, GP doctors are authorized to issue you the following documents:

    • A prescription (recepta) of the medication

Nowadays prescriptions are mostly electronic (e-recepta) which is sent as an sms. You will need to provide the 4 digit code of your prescription and provide your PESEL number or passport number.

    • A referral (skierowanie) to some other specialist that can make further examination
    • A referral (skierowanie) to run a test ( for eg. blood test ) or evaluation

The doctors can also grant you a right to sick leave for a certain amount of time meaning you will not have to work for the period established in your sick leave note. Your doctor will notify ZUS electronically about your absence at work upon your visit – there will be no documents to give you as a confirmation of your sick leave.
