An interactive workshop for students and PhD students to help them better understand how communication works in a new culture. Participants will learn what can lead to misunderstandings, how to build bridges of understanding and how to develop intercultural competence. Working through examples, exercises and their own experiences, they will learn practical strategies for everyday contact with the local community, lecturers and other students.

Participants will:

  1. learn the basics of intercultural communication,
  2. understand the impact of cultural differences on the way they communicate,
  3. learn to adapt their communication style,
  4. practice strategies for dealing with cultural misunderstandings.
