‘Let’s get along! Intercultural communication in a new country’

An interactive workshop for students and PhD students to help them better understand how communication works in a new culture. Participants will learn what can lead to misunderstandings, how to build bridges of understanding and how to develop intercultural competence. Working through examples, exercises and their own experiences, they will learn practical strategies for everyday contact with the local community, lecturers and other students.

Participants will:

learn the basics of intercultural communication,
understand the impact of cultural differences on the way they communicate,
learn to adapt their communication style,
practice strategies for dealing with cultural misunderstandings.

Duration:

13:00 – 14:30

Trainer:

Joanna Kowalczyk, International Organization for Migration

The workshop will also present mobility opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme and UNIgreen.

Welcome new international students!

Students from exchange programmes and full degree programmes coming from many different countries attended a meeting organised by International Relations Office – WePoint.

The meeting was opened by prof. Marta Mendel, SGGW Vice-Rector for Internationalization, who warmly welcomed the participants and then spoke about The Green European University – UNIgreen. The students could also learn about the SGGW student organisations – Student Council and Erasmus Student Network, as well as the offered support of WePoint and the Main Library. Polish students presented various aspects of Polish culture to their foreign colleagues.

We wish all new students a good and fruitful stay at SGGW!

Culinary Integration Workshop for SGGW International Academic Staff

Foreign SGGW academics and interns met at an integrative culinary workshop. The event took place in a unique historical space – Villa Intrata, on the grounds of the King John III Sobieski Palace Museum in Wilanów.

Under the guidance of experts, participants prepared dishes inspired by recipes from ancient cookery books.

The meeting was organised by the International Relations Office as part of the project ‘Internationalisation of SGGW – Attracting Foreign Talent’, financed by the NAWA Welcome to Poland programme.

The event enabled the establishment of contacts and relationships between foreign scientists working or doing long-term internships at SGGW.

Welcome to Ecuador!

SGGW student, Cristian Olivares, from the Faculty of Applied Informatics and Mathematics, visited the primary school children and introduced them to his country, Ecuador, in an exciting and engaging way.

During the meeting the children took part in a quiz and received small gifts from Ecuador!
